‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 5 preview (PBS): A big surprise for Hugh Bonneville’s Robert

For everyone who enjoys “Downton Abbey” (and we assume that you are one of them, given that you are reading this article), be prepared for the next new episode of the show: It’s going to be a huge one, or at least a shocking one.

While we don’t want to say too much in this preview, there will be an event that happens that make Robert question quite a few things pertaining to not just his own future at the Abbey, but the future of many around him. It may also come completely out of the blue to many of you who are watching; ITV even issued a warning before this episode first aired in Britain. This was certainly interesting material for Hugh Bonneville to play, given that it differs so much from what he tends to do the majority of the time on the series.

Elsewhere in this episode, be prepared for plenty more drama on the subject of Lady Mary’s love life. While she is going to make her feelings for Henry Talbot clear in one sense, she also has to contend with some of her own biases and feelings that come about as a product of the times.

Oh, and the hospital plot is continue to be a big part of the show. As a matter of fact, you could argue that this episode contains some of the most information that we’ve seen to date when it comes to it. In one way or another, we’re going to make some progress!
