Could ‘Gotham’ season 2 really spawn a spin-off for Fox?

Gotham -Throughout two seasons so far, “Gotham” has shown itself to be a rather popular entity for Fox. While it is not necessarily a ratings dynamo, it has gotten better and better in quality and has made instant stars out of some of its cast, with Robin Lord Taylor in particular being spectacular.

So with this in mind, it at least makes sense for a potential spin-off show to be at least explored. Is it possible? Spin-offs aplenty have emerged at The CW, but speaking (per Cinema Blend) while at TCA recently, network co-programming head Gary Newman had the following to say about the idea:

“We’re really happy with the creativity on Gotham this year. We thought the Rise of the Villains has been great, and it feels like a world that has many, many stories to tell. We haven’t had any conversations with Warners about whether or not they’d want to do a spinoff series. I think that would be an issue for DC. It isn’t quite clear to me that they’d be ready to do that, but it’s a good idea.”

The biggest issue that we see with this idea is who you really choose to set it on, unless you are looking to take on one or two iconic villains, give them an origin story elsewhere, and make the onus of the entire series all about that. With that being said, even that feels unlikely, and we’re not sure if Fox is that curious about exploring prequel series for many other heroes.
