Usually there is a huge cast reveal day for “The Amazing Race,” and it is a chance to get to know many of the teams that will be taking part in the show moving into the upcoming season.
However, things are a little bit different for season 28. This time around, CBS opted to release the full cast list online before filming even began, a rare move and also an interesting one given that many of the people taking part either are or are close to internet celebrity. At first, we grumbled about the twist taking spots away from people from different walks of life, but we now fully get it. This is a low-rated reality show looking for some sort of spark, and if getting familiar faces in the 18-49 demographic will help to convince new people to watch, we’re all for it. The unfortunate thing is for now that we haven’t seen a huge correlation between web stars having a following online, and them bringing viewers to a TV show.
You can see all of the cast introduction videos below; Tyler Oakley remains to us the most well-known person on the list thanks to YouTube, but we’ve come to know others since the cast announcement and even find appreciation in Zach King’s imaginative Vine videos. (They may be the only thing that we watch on Vine.)
This new season will premiere starting on February 12, and the last thing we’ll say before giving you the videos is this: Who in the world decided to change the cast photo to something akin to high-school yearbook day? Oh, and we’re also considering doing spotlight articles for each team in the next couple of weeks as a way to get some other coverage out there.
