‘The Voice UK’ preview: A look ahead at episode 3

This weekend there will be yet another episode of “The Voice UK” coming on BBC, and the preview video gives you at least a little bit of a sense of what you can expect to see coming up this weekend.

The most unfortunate part of this sneak peek to us, though, is that it makes very little effort to show us any particular artist other than a big note or two … which is part of the problem. We already know who Boy George, will.i.am, Paloma Faith, and Ricky Wilson are. On this show the coaches are really the stars, and the artists are more of the supporting cast. It is a coach’s journey to victory just as much as it is an artist’s. This is one of the many reasons why there has not been a winner of this show to come out and be an enormous star.

So far this season we’d say that there have been at least some very-interesting artists, but it’s going to take us some time to know in one way or another if they have some sort of career in the recording industry down the road. We need to see how they handle the pressure of the live shows; it takes a lot to handle a blind audition, but it is even more challenging to go in front of all of Britain and perform live, handling the nerves and everything that is thrown at you during a live show.
