‘Saturday Night Live’ promo: Selena Gomez, Cecily Strong join Ronda Rousey

The next new episode of “Saturday Night Live” is coming your way in just a single day’s time, and this is going to be one that features a host in Ronda Rousey who does not exactly have much history in live comedy. She’s likely still to draw a big audience as a familiar sports star, though, in addition to having a big personality and being someone with a history of drawing headlines.

The latest promo by NBC features Rousey alongside cast member Cecily Strong and a musical guest in Selena Gomez who will probably get to cameo in at least one sketch over the course of the show. She’s someone who of course is a popular musical guest, but also who starred for many years on the Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place.” She has a lot of experience in live comedy, and we compare her appearance here to either Demi Lovato earlier this season or Ariana Grande over a year ago. both at least appeared in one sketch, and we can see Selena doing two given that she is with a host who is a little less experience.

As for the promo itself, it’s mildly amusing and we remain irritated at NBC for making us watch two separate ads to get to a promo that is shorter than the actual ads are, and really isn’t worth the price of admission unless you are a diehard fan.

Don’t worry: This is no indicator as to the quality of the show itself. The cast and writers just don’t spend much time on these.
