‘Legends of Tomorrow’ premiere: Show bosses talk tone, spirit of adventure
Through the past year or so, we think that the Greg Berlanti – DC Universe over at The CW has really figured out the right sort of tone for it, and it is as close to the source material as possible. While “Arrow” still is slightly more serious and darker in tone, “The Flash” has allowed itself to have a field day at times with its imagination, relishing in getting to create cool characters like King Shark or Killer Frost.
It seems as though the latest show in “Legends of Tomorrow,” premiering on the network Thursday night, will adopt more characteristics from the latter. While executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Phil Klemmer say in the video below that it will have some emotional moments here and there, this show is meant to adopt a spirit of adventure and a popcorn-movie feel. If you’re not having fun watching the show, you’re clearly doing something wrong.
We do think that “Legends” has managed to get many things right in getting people on board to balance out the fun and the drama … especially when you think about all of the connections between this show and “Chuck,” one of our favorite shows ever. Star Brandon Routh was a recurring character on the show in season 3, while Klemmer wrote and produced on the show. Meanwhile, “Chuck” showrunner Chris Fedak wrote one of the early “Legends” episodes, which you will see in the near future.
Routh isn’t the only actor in the DC universe that Klemmer has experience with, either. He was the showrunner for another CW show in “The Tomorrow People,” which starred Robbie Amell and Peyton List, who hopefully will come on this show in due time.
Anyway, we’ll see how the tone and all of these connections work out on Thursday night, so stay tuned and hit up this link for further coverage. Also, sign up right now to get some more TV news on everything we cover, sent right over to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: The CW.)
