Before we get to tonight’s new “American Idol” episode, we thought we’d share at least two more auditions that we find particularly striking today.
Manny Torres – Let’s begin here with Manny, given the fact that he is one of those guys who can do a little bit of everything. He’s got some dance moves, some skills as a musician, and he can also sing. He also finds a way to make Maroon 5’s “This Love” sound different and not just like a generic cover track.
We’ve talked a lot this week about “Idol” using contestants who have previously been on other shows, but Manny’s story is a little more interesting than that. Apparently he made it all the way to the show round of auditions for “The Voice,” but never got a chance to perform as all of the coaches had spots on their team filled. This is mostly interesting to us in that there are apparently occasions where this happens. Manny’s clearly going to get a golden ticket to the next round.
As for where he goes beyond that, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Colette Lush – Meanwhile, Colette is someone who has recorded YouTube covers, but we haven’t really gotten too much of a sense of her history beyond that. She’s got a big voice with a lot of range to it, even if she’s performing a song we’ve heard at countless auditions over the years. She’s also gives the judges at least a little bit of entertaining banter about redheads, and how many of them could be going away over the next several decades.
Like with Manny, we don’t think there is any reason to be concerned about Colette’s future on the show.
