Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0’ and ‘Blue Bloods’ slide; ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ premiere down
The winners – “Shark Tank” improved on its most-recent outing to a 1.4 in the key 18-49 demographic, which is enough for to tie “MasterChef Junior” for the #1 spot on the night. Meanwhile, “Reign” (0.4) is also currently up, but it could adjust down based on a preemption for NBA basketball. We’ll see what happens there.
The losers – The big one is “Hell’s Kitchen,” which premiered to a 1.1, proving further that there is a smaller and smaller core of people wanting to see Gordon Ramsay smash dishes and swear at people. We did really love this show once upon a time, but as of late it has just felt like the same thing over and over again.
Meanwhile, new episodes of “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods” each scored a 1.3, which is down a tenth from their most-recent airings. Still, both shows are up versus their season averages, further showing that the January Bump is a thing for Friday shows like this. (What we mean by this is that with poor weather, people are more inclined to stay inside and watch TV versus going out and doing other things. These shows have a history of drawing their biggest numbers in January. “Blue Bloods” is actually very close to drawing the same average rating as last season.)

if Hawaii Five O and Blue Bloods can do 1.3’s every week for the rest of the season, they will have justified their being renewed.
