‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Adam Dirver, Aidy Bryant go for last-minute laughs

SNL -We’re just one day away from the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” of 2016, and there is one thing that you can assume based on the new promo below: The show is probably going for a whole lot of “Star Wars” humor.

This video features host Adam Driver along with cast member Aidy Bryant, with them back in the studio this time after the first promos featured Driver alongside Kate McKinnon out a diner. The preview is barely over 30 seconds once you take out the horrendous in-video advertisement that NBC has going on following the unskippable advertisement on their video. Yep, they’ve now got you watching commercials longer than the length of the preview, only to get a preview that’s really not all that funny in the first place. It’s barely worth watching one preview to get to. Musical guest Chris Stapleton is there, but has no real purpose other than standing there and showing off his impressive beard.

This lack of humor in the preview gives us no hesitancy about feeling that this will be a pretty good show, mostly because these previews featuring the musical guests are only funny about 10% of the time. They’re put together at the last second just because NBC needs to advertise the show somehow, and they’d rather have Driver working on some of the sketches. They’ve been at this all week trying to start the year off on a high note.

In past years, we think that “SNL” has struggled following the holiday break. Last year’s show with Kevin Hart wasn’t a complete dud, but it also wasn’t as great as it should have been given how talented the host was.
