‘Mr. Robot’ season 2 spoilers: Series boss on Elliot’s big dilemma

It is safe to say at the moment that the cast and crew of USA’s “Mr. Robot” are riding high. They are coming off of their first big series win at the Golden Globes, and they are in the process of preparing new episodes for season 2. There is a challenge to that in trying to figure out a way to meet the expectations of viewers, but Sam Esmail and the entirety of his cast seem to be ready for it. Star Rami Malek in particular has been ensuring that he has had as open a schedule as possible to ensure that he can bring Elliot to light to the best of his ability.

One thing that Esmail (who is the creator / showrunner) is intent on doing for the upcoming batch of episodes is making sure that Elliot’s emotional journey is front and center. Here is what he had to say on that subject to TVLine while at the TCA Winter Press Tour this week to promote the show:

“I really wanted to focus on that and make it less about the plot … For me, the headline for Season 2 is, ‘How do these two guys [Elliot and Mr. Robot] reconcile? How does Elliot reconcile with the fact that he’s been seeing a delusion, a fantasy?’”

Esmail also hinted that there are more products of Elliot’s mind that could be revealed in due time, but it is not his intention to tell a series jam-packed full of “OMG” moments. He wants to create something that is more impactful on a personal level, and to have choices matter.
