Just in case you were not excited enough to see the premiere of DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” on The CW come Thursday, January 21, know that there is another iconic member of the DC Universe coming at some point past the halfway point of the season. Meet Jonah Hex!
Many long-time comic-book fans are familiar with this particular character, who was notable for his work in the Old West and for his distinctive scars. This character was the subject of a feature film, but one that failed to make an impression at the box office. Maybe this show is a better venue; one way or another, we are going to find out when they debut around the 11th episode of this season. Speaking to Variety, executive producer Marc Guggenheim explains why they opted to dive into this universe for at least one episode:
“Ever since we decided that ‘Legends’ would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West … But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply MUST include Jonah Hex in it. We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.”
While this character is big enough to be a permanent member of the team if the producers chose to go that route, we doubt that they will … at least for now. After all, characters from a particular era do tend to stay there, and they’ve got a rather large cast to begin with right now. What this may be is a rather nice audition for more appearances down the road.
