‘American Idol 15’ premiere video: Michelle Marie auditions to ‘Blue’

American Idol -For years with “American Idol,” one of our laments has always been that the talent pool has slowly diminished. There are only so many “undiscovered” singers out there who don’t have record deals yet, or haven’t appeared on another singing show.

Luckily, the saving grace is that every year you do get a new group of 15-year olds stepping up to the plate, and Michelle Marie is one of those! In the video below, you can hear her perform the song “Blue” by LeAnn Rimes, which we mostly know because of Haley Reinhart several seasons ago. She does a great job with it! Sure, we wonder whether or not a 15-year old can relate to heartache, but you have to remember here that Rimes was actually younger than her when she first recorded the song! She should be fine!

As for whether or not we see her making it to the live shows, it’s too early to tell. We could see nerves getting to her in Hollywood Week, but we think that America would find her relatable and want to keep her around to a certain degree. One of the interesting things we’re looking forward to seeing is if the show chooses to bust out the “you’re just not ready” reasoning for any singers this year, since it’s not like they can tell them to come back in a year’s time. They have to say instead that they can go to “The Voice,” YouTube, or somewhere else. That’s a weird feeling that may make getting a rejection from this final season even harder. At least previously you had that security blanket of knowing that you could be asked back at a later date.

We’ll be back later tonight with our full review of the “American Idol” premiere. For now, head over here to see some other videos featuring some of the performers!
