Is ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 9 new tonight on ABC? An explanation and what’s next
Typically when “The Bachelor” premieres, “Castle” fans get a little bit of good news in the form of new episodes. Unfortunately, that is not going to be the case this year. Rather than airing “Tone Death,” the first new episode of 2016, on Monday, you’re going to have to wait instead until February 1.
Why the long wait? It’s mostly a decision by the network to fill the month of January with “Bachelor Live,” their new aftershow hosted by Chris Harrison that will feature week in and week out interviews from people associated with the show and the fan community. They’ll probably draw decent ratings for this, or ones that are at least close to what “Castle” was getting for the first part of season 8.
The only silver lining that we can offer to some of you out there who may be a little bit disappointed is that this is going to lead to some more new episodes coming up consecutively once we get to February. If ABC were to air a new episode every week starting with “Tone Death” (which is going to be a fun case inspired in part by “Pitch Perfect”), they would be done come May 2. That’s something that they may now consider, even if “Castle” does tend to air a little deeper into May sometimes. There is value that comes in airing shows without breaks.
Of course, if they do this it will just show how ABC has completely confused everyone when it comes to their plan for the Nathan Fillion – Stana Katic series this season. First, it appeared like they were doing the split-season model. Then, it appeared like they were moving away from it. Now, they’re practically doing it again!

Don’t think they can recover from that incredibly stupid. Plot line of the first 8 episodes. It doesn’t help that the plot will continue. Have a feeling others may join Mandy, the ratings will tell.

The extended hiatus would be a good thing “IF” the showrunners were using the time to rewrite scripts and fix this idiotic Loksat/Castle-Beckett Separation storyline. I’m really hoping the network pushed for these changes to improve the shows ratings, but judging by the comments made by the showrunners, I don’t believe this is the case. It sounds like the showrunners are continuing on this ill-fated path in spite of the low ratings. If they are, by the time the hiatus is over, they will have already completed a good number of episodes. So if the ratings continue to fall, it will be too late to change the storyline. It reminds me of a quote by Tullius Cicero…”Any man can make a mistake, but only a fool persists in it”.

Great quote by you. We need more literary minded people writing on the internet.

Not counting on it ending on a high note due to lackluster writing and showrunners who have no clue as to what fans have been clamoring for, but there could be life left in this show if TPTB returned, even somewhat, to its original outline. I fear SK has already checked out and have no desire to watch Castle sans Beckett.

Mandy ,yes I agree maybe that is what they want.It appears that neither Nathan or Stana are not to interested in the show any more .Maybe that is due to the writing not sure.I am such a big fan of the show ,but I think it is the powers to be are ending it this year hopefully on a high note.

not happy about the wait this is ruining the series, people are gonna start getting restless and look for other shows and eventually forget “Castle”

They should have started the new episodes in January so CASTLE would have 2 months to make up ratings before Blindspot comes back. The plot so far has been HORRENDOUS! I get the feeling that Nathan and Stana are tired of doing this. ABC needs to come out NOW and say that even if CASTLE only does a 1.2 average for the 22 or so episodes, they will bring it back. Otherwise, I fear that this season is it.
