‘The Fall’ season 3: Jamie Dornan – Gillian Anderson adds new actors, reportedly final run

FallThere may no longer be a need to wonder whether or not “The Fall” will continue beyond a third season anymore. While we hoped at one point that there would be more of the Gillian Anderson – Jamie Dornan series, a new report from Deadline certainly suggests that season 3 will in fact be the final one.

Is this huge news? Not entirely, since there had been talk of it for some time. We were personally hoping that over the past several months that this stance could have changed, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The site reports that some of the new cast members include Krister Henriksson (“Wallander”), Aidan McArdle (“Mr. Selfridge”), Ruth Bradley (“Humans”), Aisling Bea (“Trollied”) and Richard Coyle (“Crossbones”), and they also included a statement from writer Allan Cubitt to go along with it:

“I’ve been on a very exciting journey over the last five years with Stella Gibson and Paul Spector… and I’m thrilled to have recently started filming the third installment of their macabre, obsessive dance of death. Gillian and Jamie have lived and breathed those characters during that time and I’ve been incredibly well-served as both writer and director by their stellar performances. Obviously I don’t want to give anything away about how the third series will end but I can say that I am looking forward to working with both Gillian and Jamie again in the near future!”

Are we sad about the show ending? Probably so, if for no other reason than that it was a wonderful thrill ride accented by great performances. Yet at the same time, isn’t there something to be said for leaving people wanting more? Also, given the nature of this show and the actions of Dornan’s Paul Spector, there is really only so long that this series can go on without things coming to a peak.
