‘Game of Thrones’ season 6: George R.R. Martin thanks fans after ‘Winds of Winter’ announcement

LogoWhen George R.R. Martin first announced that his new novel The Winds of Winter would not be done until after “Game of Thrones” season 6 came and went off the air, it is fair to say that we expected some negativity and freaking-out by diehard fans. After all, we understand that there is an unquenchable thirst among many to see where Martin takes his latest chapter in A Song of Ice and Fire, but a select few fans have reacted with anger in the past that his particular form of art is not being catered around their schedule.

Luckily, what tends to be forgotten in the midst of some of the negative headlines is that the majority of fans are kind, understanding and supportive, and these are the people who mostly came out in support of Martin after he made his announcement. These are people who understand that while many similar events are covered in the book and TV show, there are enough differences at this point that they can each be enjoyed without one entirely spoiling the other.

This kindness led to Martin creating yet another post this weekend, this time sending kind words to many fans:

“The outpouring of support in response to my post on THE WINDS OF WINTER has been astonishing. Thank you all, so very much … I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all the kind words and good wishes.”

Will these words help him finish The Winds of Winter sooner? Not necessarily, but we imagine having millions of people being overtly aggressive and putting pressure on him to write faster would not help him very much, either.
