‘The Simpsons’ video: Kaitlin Olson, Stephen Merchant talk upcoming guest spots
After being off for the holidays “The Simpsons” is one of the shows that is coming back on the air Sunday night, and they are doing so with something that feels in one part a take on silicon valley, and another part an opportunity to bring in some big-name guest stars. Kaitlin Olson (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Stephen Merchant (“Hello Ladies”) are both going to guest-star, and the video below features the two of them discussing their roles in greater detail.
Olson is going to be playing a new tech teacher who serves as a mentor-of-sorts for Lisa as the two come up with an app that is going to warn people against doing stupid things on social media. (There really should be something like this for real life.) Merchant is going to play the voice of said app.
This guest spot is rather perfectly timed, given everything else that these two have had going on. Olson’s FXX series is getting set to premiere with another new season, while Merchant has also recently appeared on a series of “The Big Bang Theory” episodes as Dave, a man completely obsessed with Sheldon who briefly dated Amy prior to her and Sheldon getting back together.
In the end, this has the makings of a fun episode, and it should at least provide some contrast to that recent episode inspired by “Boyhood,” which was a little more serious when you consider the typical subject matter for this show.
