Through all of “NCIS: Los Angeles,” our opportunities to learn information on Spcial Agent G. Callen have been fairly limited. Heck, they’ve been fairly limited for him, as well. He’s never been able to find out what that letter stands for, but the good news is that apparently, some answers are coming before we make it to the end of this season!
This news was confirmed today by executive producer Shane Brennan in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he stated that even after Callen discovers more about who he truly is:
“It was always my intention to reveal Callen’s identity before the series ended … We’ve had a lot of fun finding out who Callen is, and from where he came. I wanted the audience to have the opportunity to enjoy that moment. And while he’s now discovered his identity, Callen’s odyssey isn’t over. In many ways, it’s just beginning.”
If there is one thing that we’d say about this decision superficially, it is that it is a smart one. Nobody knows at the moment whether or not this series is going to be coming back for another season on CBS, and thanks to that you don’t want to leave anything on the table here. If the show ended without the Callen mystery being somewhat resolved, we can only imagine what the reaction by some fans would be. (For those wondering, we’ll be talking a little bit more about the ratings odds for the show coming up later this month in our Ratings Bubble Report series.)
