NBC’s ‘The Voice’ winner Jordan Smith rocks National Anthem before NHL Winter Classic
The Winter Classic has become a tradition like almost no other year in and year out, with NHL teams gathering outdoors to face off in an environment in front of tens of thousands of fans. This year, we had a game between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts (home of the New England Patriots), and they also got a National Anthem performance like no other courtesy of Jordan Smith.
In the video below courtesy of the NHL themselves, you can see the reigning champion of “The Voice” perform a stirring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and he did so without flinching despite performing in front of such an enormous audience. This is one of the first major TV gigs for Smith since winning the show, and these are pretty valuable given how it will be a while until he gets original music out there.
One of the good things that Jordan does have going for him is that with such a booming voice, we could imagine him being hired to do many more anthems in the weeks and months ahead. The new season of the singing shot will start on NBC in February, and we hope that he will be invited back to perform during at least one of the live shows, even though that is not much time to get some original music ready.
As there are some more updates about Jordan, new music, and other future gigs, we’ll have them for you here! Be on the lookout.
