Stephen Colbert live-tweets failed journey to fake New Year’s Eve party

Late Show -

There are many people in the world of TV who clearly had a great New Year’s Eve. Based on how he is eating crawfish and dipping into a hot tub, we’re feeling pretty confident that Don Lemon of CNN is one of them.

As for who seemingly did not have a great night, that goes to Stephen Colbert. The host of “The Late Show” committed to what has to be one of the funnier bits we saw on social media last night, live-tweeting a “journey” that he was on to a party called Stephen Colbert’s Boppin’ New Year’s Eve. This came complete with him excitedly talking about the party to him getting stuck in fake traffic, grumbling, and then eventually complaining that it was such “bull—t” that he was not able to get to the party. Eventually, he turned around and headed back home.

What’s especially funny about this is that Colbert tweeted about his fake journey last night over a dozen times, whereas following his departure from “The Colbert Report” last year, he only tweeted a few times over the course of several months. Clearly, things have changed with that new TV gig! Our New Year’s resolution for Stephen’s show is mostly that he continues to make himself stand out from the rest of the late-night field. He did that in 2015 with more than just social-media stunts; he also booked interesting guests and wasn’t afraid to take on more sensitive topics from time to time. He’s less about gimmicks and more about thoughtful pieces to engage his audience.

Happy New Year, everybody! Hopefully we get some more great comedy from Colbert and company moving forward into 2016.
