‘The Expanse’ renewed for season 2 by Syfy
Syfy is willing to let the world of “The Expanse” expand … at least for a little while longer.
Today, the network announced that they are officially renewing the new series for a second season of 13 episodes, which is three more than it had for its first season this year. All signs were pointing towards this happening, given that the writers were already working on some ideas. Here is what President Dave Howe had to say in a statement:
“The Expanse is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy’s promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment.”
The great thing about what Syfy is doing these days is that they are at least showing a willingness to expand beyond just what they already have, and they are giving shows multiple opportunities to flourish. However, at the same exact time we do think that worry still stands that season 2 or 3 could be the end of this show if it doesn’t improve. While the network is kind enough to give new shows second chances, they don’t often have long lives after that. Ratings remain a challenge for “The Expanse,” which is drawing numbers that are a little bit lower that what some of their canceled shows were receiving in certain measures.
We’ll have some further information about this show and many others as we push further into the new year. For now, let’s just hope that in one way or another, viewers find away to get their friends and family watching science fiction like never before.
