Remember some of those Marvel specials that ABC has been putting on the air over the past year or two? Well, clearly someone at Warner Bros. thought it would be a great idea for The CW to do the same thing next month.
Today, the network announced that on Thursday, January 19 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern following the winter premiere for “The Flash,” two half-hour specials will air. The first is entitled “Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time is Now,” and the official synopsis describes it as “Featuring show clips and interviews from LEGENDS, ARROW, and THE FLASH executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, and Wendy Mericle, THEIR TIME IS NOW introduces viewers to the immortal madman Vandal Savage, the time master Rip Hunter, and the motley band of heroes and rogues he assembles to try to save the future of humanity: Hawkman, Hawkgirl, White Canary, The Atom, Firestorm, Captain Cold, and Heat Wave.”
Meanwhile, the next special is entitled “DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League,” and it will contain footage of the upcoming “Wonder Woman” project to go along with a new trailer for “Suicide Squad,” otherwise known as that movie that is keeping “Arrow” from doing anything with Harley Quinn despite however much they may want to. Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and more will appear in interview footage.
Ultimately, this is a great way for DC to take advantage of some prime CW real estate after the network’s highest-rated show, and for “Legends of Tomorrow” it is simply another way to build up a little bit of hype before their premiere two days later on January 21.
