Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez joins ‘Empire’ season 2 stars at Fox’s New Year’s Eve special
Clearly, losing the Miss Universe Pageant in a pretty devastating manner does still have its perks. The latest announcement proves it.
Fox has confirmed that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, who was given the official title for a short minute or two thanks to a mistake by host Steve Harvey, will be appearing on “Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution” from Miami this year alongside such guests as Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, and Yazz from “Empire” season 2, Timbaland, Christina Milian, Kal Penn, Jordin Sparks, Yandel, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.
Ultimately, you’ve got a mixture here of music personalities, young “influencers” (to use that word), and then also some people who are certainly in the moment. Gutierrez may end up being more famous than the actual Miss Universe if for no other reason than that she was at the center of such a big saga, and she is getting some more opportunities in America. She has already spent some time in Miami following the end of the pageant.
While we’re not sure at this point that including Gutierrez will make much of a difference when it comes to ratings, Fox has to do everything that they can. “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” tends to clobber everything else on the air for ABC, and the only way that you are going to combat that are to corral a different demographic. ABC has down everyone looking for sentiment and nostalgia come December 31; you have to appeal to younger voters who are more of the party crowd, or people wanting to feel like they are completely “in the moment.” This booking is a way to further along that particular strategy.
