‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: Will Rachel Tchen stand out among Ben Higgins contenders?
We’re coming to the end now of our “Bachelor” spotlight series for Ben Higgins’ season, but there are some contenders still left to profile. One of them is Rachel Tchen, who unfortunately does not pop off the page for much other than having a very unusual last name.
We’re still going to do our part to figure out where she stands in the sea of contenders this season, but immediately we’re having more trouble with this one than most.
Age – 23. She recently graduated from Harding University in Arkansas, so she is still beginning the next phase of her life.
Occupation – Unemployed. We like the honesty, just as we also like that production didn’t give her some sort of nutty job like “chicken enthusiast” or “twin.”
Location – Little Rock, Arkansas. Contestants from the south do have a history of performing well on the show; we’ll see if that tradition holds here. She did work in business development before the show.
Things to know – There’s not really anything that stands out from her ABC bio other than that she loves cookies, which suggests to us that maybe she’d be better off competing in an alternate-universe “Bachelor” where Marquel is the lead more so than one with Ben.
Strengths – We think she’s genuine about wanting to find love through the show. She’s probably not opposed to fame, but every woman on this show has that philosophy. She comes across as down-to-earth and genuine, and will try to make the most of her time there.
Problem areas – We just don’t think this is the right venue for Rachel. She seems destined to be that contestants who lasts for a little while, but gets almost no air time before being sent home. She doesn’t have a super-interesting background or a gimmick that will make her stand out in the early going. In this show it’s about standing out just as much as being the right person for the guy, since Ben only has so much time with each woman.
Prediction – As we said, she’ll be gone probably around episode 4 or 5, and you’ll probably have no idea she is even on the show before then.
