‘Saturday Night Live’ video: Kyle Mooney meets Justin Bieber fans in deleted sketch

SNL -Kyle Mooney has developed somewhat of a reputation for being for “Saturday Night Live” what Matt Damon is for “Jimmy Kimmel Live”: Always cut at the last minute. While in Mooney’s case he does typically make it onto the show, a larger percentages of his sketches are cut than ones featuring some other cast members.

Why is that? We’re not entirely sure, but one thing that we have noticed is that many of them probably play better for an internet crowd than people watching the show live. A great example of that is the one below, which focuses on him interviewing people waiting to see Justin Bieber performing on “The Today Show.” He repeatedly asks one woman how long she has been waiting, purposefully says popular Bieber phrases incorrectly, and also just tries his best to make things awkward.

This character is similar to one that Mooney has done before out and about New York City; heck, it may be the same one since we don’t remember all of the finer details. Either way, we find this very funny and there’s some good replay value here. While we’re not sure the energy would match up with the rest of “SNL” around it, we do feel like we would’ve been pretty high on it if it actually aired during an episode.

The weirdest thing about this video as a whole is probably the fact that “SNL” waited so long to release it. This was filmed more than a month ago, so maybe the plan was to bank some content to release over the hiatus. The show is not coming back until January 16.
