ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8: Show bosses on ‘final season’ talk
Yes, the executive producers for “Castle” have heard plenty of the discussion about whether or not season 8 is going to be the end of the road for them. With that being said, that doesn’t mean that they in the slightest want the show to end.
Speaking to TVLine, Terence Paul Winter comments that much like show creator Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller wrote the season 8 finale to potentially be a series finale, he and Alexi Hawley are planning the same thing:
“Andrew and Terri wrote it as if it was the series finale, and there’s a very good chance that we’ll most likely be doing that here. We hope to come back for Season 9, but we have to act as if [we might not].”
We’re going to get more into the renewal odds of “Castle” in an article series next month, but for the time being what we’ll say is that we can certainly see a scenario in which the show does come back, even if the ratings are not that great and Nathan Fillion / Stana Katic don’t come cheap anymore. Let’s put it it like this: Other than Thursday nights, can you name a single night where ABC has their primetime lineup really together? You can argue maybe Fridays, but there are clear holes on Sunday and Tuesday, “Nashville” is struggling on Wednesday, and the new shows coming up may not be able to feel the void.
Ultimately, what we’re trying to say here is that “Castle” could end up getting another batch of episodes just to fill a spot in the schedule with something consistent. We’d personally like to know when the show is ending long in advance, mostly so that the time can be taken to craft a proper conclusion.

ABC is here to make money, I doubt they will fund a series that financially breaks even just to fill a time slot, especially when the demo is at an all time low .09 has to be the limit . Any number lower has to be the death knell.

They want to know long in advance of when the show will end so that they can write a proper conclusion. They talk as if they have the talent to write a proper conclusion.
They need to get rid of Vikram and Hayley now. It should not be difficult since the only purpose they are serving is to take air time away from Castle and Beckett.
They could help Castle, the show, have a season 9 by bringing Caskett together publicaly and privately rather to continue to drive them apart. It is getting obvious that it is only dragging the show down and should be stopped, immediately.
They should solve LokSat and Castle’s disappearance (if they must) in episode 14 to get that mundane issue out of the way so as to have 8 episodes in which to reestablish the good shows and good times.

With the way things have gone so far and the plans the show runners have for the rest of the season, there will not be many who notice if Castle ends or not. Terrible waste of the best romantic pairing since Hepburn and Bogart in The African Queen.

Strongly agree! Their sensational relationship, with passion and humor, makes CASTLE – so get back to embracing what works – CASKETT with fun fireworks!
Castle can have a longer life than this season. Everyone knows what works – the sensational chemistry of Beckett and Castle pursuing criminals, brainstorming, finishing each other’s thoughts and sentences. When they are disconnected, like much of Season 8, the show’s quality and popularity falls.
The fans love them together, and if together they can do anything! Castle has stood by Kate “always,” and Kate knows she is better with him, not apart. So fire up the chemistry, the passion and humor, and plan for the next Season.
