‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Will Maggie Smith finally watch with series finale over?
For years, Maggie Smith has made one thing clear when it comes to “Downton Abbey”: She hasn’t seen the show. This is a practice that many other TV actors, including Andrew Lincoln of “The Walking Dead” and others follow, with one of the reasons being that it can be distracting to see yourself on TV. We’re not sure if that is Smith’s feeling so much as she may just have plenty of other things going on in her life.
It is rare to see Smith do many interviews on American television, mostly because she rarely leaves the United Kingdom for awards shows or anything else. With this in mind, CBS’ “Sunday Morning” went to London to interview her, and in the video below you can see her joke about having to eat the final script of the show to keep spoilers from getting out, how she has the boxed set of show DVDs now that she can watch whenever she wants, and how over time, she figured out a way to not have to wear so many of the series’ signature corsets:
“In actual fact, I have to say that I did cheat a bit … Because I promised that if I sat up, bolt upright, I made it look as though I were wearing corsets.”
If there is one thing that some of the women on this show probably do not miss, it is this. The cast and crew may be an entirely different story. While the series finale a.k.a. the recent Christmas Special aired in the UK earlier this week, it will still be many months before it airs in America on PBS.
