‘Chicago PD’ season 3 spoilers: Dallas Roberts to return for ‘Law & Order: SVU’ crossover

Through his past appearances on “Chicago PD” and “Law & Order: SVU,” Dallas Roberts has received a chance to play quite the nefarious character in Greg Yates. He’s been involved in many gruesome killings, but the last we saw him he was firmly locked away behind bars.

Well, the bad news for the teams on these two shows is that he’s not going to be staying imprisoned for much longer. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview, “Chicago PD” executive producer Matt Olmstead confirms that Yates will escape for an upcoming crossover that will air in February:

“He comes back to Chicago and it all goes down in Chicago … Of course there’s a personal connection more so than ever in terms of Lindsay wanting to get this guy. It’s such an intense episode.”

In case you were wondering what happened to a big crossover between these two shows, “Chicago Fire,” and “Chicago Med,” Olmstead claims that this is no longer happening … at least for the time being. We can understand why. Trying to tell a story across four shows is a huge task, and you really don’t want to do it unless there is a huge reason to story-wise. Otherwise, it comes across as cheapening the brand for the sake of ratings.

Even if this is a crossover between just two shows as opposed to four, we feel like there’s ultimately still quite a bit to like here. Why wouldn’t you want to see some sort of conclusion to this story? Given what Yates did to Nadia, you have to imagine that the team over at Intelligence is going to do everything in their power to get this guy for good.
