‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: Jubilee Sharpe’s story, military history make her Ben Higgins suitor to watch
However, it does not take too much time at all for us to realize that there is something about Jubilee Sharpe that makes her someone we want to see on the show for a long time. We’re not sure how long she will last, but she has a very interesting story that will make her stand out. We’re also not sure we’ve ever had a contestant on the show before who is like her. Let’s go ahead and get into why she’s so interesting, and whether or not she and Ben Higgins can work.
Age – 24
Occupation – War veteran. There are not many women on this show who come on with any sort of military background, so this is intriguing. Also, we applaud her for her service.
Hometown – Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Jubilee is the third contestant we’ve spotlighted in the past week with ties to south Florida. Whoever did casting there deserves some sort of raise.
Things to know – We’re going to let Chris Harrison do this for us, since he told Yahoo! the following about her in his annual article about ladies to watch:
“She has a great name. It should be a nail polish. She was in the army and is a war veteran. She’s a very strong, bold, loyal woman. But she is also very down-to-earth and sweet. She has that attitude [that] will that fit her name… You get this intensity with her because she has the military background, but on the inside, she is actually very vulnerable and sensitive. She has an amazing story. She had a bit of a rough upbringing — born in Haiti, adopted by an American couple, and then served. Ben is impressed with her story as he gets to know her.”
Strengths – Anyone who has been in the military should be able to handle adversity, and more than that, she could be a little more upfront early in the season than some other women. She’s also innately fascinating, and she’s not going to have to worry about being overshadowed in the early going like many other contestants. She just has to open up and share her story.
Problem areas – If she has a hard time showing that vulnerable side, Ben could find Jubilee someone who is closed off and hard to know. Also, she’ll have to buck expectations that she is some sort of drill sergeant just because of her background.
Prediction – We really hope Jubilee lasts longer than a few weeks, mostly because she could have something to say about adoption and the modern state of women in the military. If she turns out to be likable we’d be down for her as a “Bachelorette” or at least on “Bachelor in Paradise.” She’s a little too much of a wild card, though, to say that she will be Ben’s choice in the end.
