‘Homeland’ season 6: The Rupert Friend mystery or lack thereof
In the wake of everything that happened on the “Homeland” season 5 finale Sunday night, there really should be one question that hangs over everyone: Is Peter Quinn really done? Will Rupert Friend return to the show?
While it did not show physically Carrie Mathison pulling the plug on the character, we feel like the finale really did a good job of cluing you into just how unlikely it would be that the character would make it through this in one piece: We just don’t see how in the world it would be possible. She was told that he really has no chance of regaining normal brain function, so the series can’t do a “Walking Dead” move and revive him like they did a certain character earlier this season. It’d be too cheap, and this show is better than that.
Yet, we’re not ruling out the possibility still of a Friend cameo at some point in the future, much in the same way that we have seen Damien Lewis turn up in one form or another since Brody was killed off. There’s always a chance for a dream sequence, a vision, or some other closure on the character. Given the note that was passed along in the finale, it feels like there is something more to be done here. We’ll just have to see what it is.
One way or another, the show is not returning until next fall. We have a long while to wait and see what is going to be coming up next.
