‘Doctor Who’ season 9 Christmas Special: Alex Kingston describes particularly-fun script

We are now just mere days from the “Doctor Who” season 9 Christmas Special coming on BBC One / BBC America, and there are many fun things to expect. While Clara Oswald may be gone from the series for the time being, we still not only have The Doctor, but also his wife in River Song turning up! Alex Kingston is going to be working alongside Peter Capaldi for what should be a thoroughly entertaining romp, and one that combines a few serious elements with more fun moments than we have seen in recent Christmas Specials.

In speaking to the Express in a brand-new interview all about the special, Kingston herself confirms some of the fun that you can expect to see coming up:

“It’s a wonderful slapstick caper. There’s a lot of great laughs, there’s a lot of fabulous River one-liners. The fans are going to love the things she says and there’s a lot of play. They’re also fighting a very interesting alien played by Greg Davies. It’s a really great episode and Steven has done my character proud.”

Maybe there are some people out there hoping for some sort of bold, shocking moment, but we have to say that personally, we’re rather fine with the series giving us something a little later for the time being. The last three episodes of season 9 were all particularly heavy, and it would be more than fine if the series decided that they wanted to move in a somewhat-new direction before introducing a new Companion and some more serious moments in season 10.
