‘Into the Badlands’ season 2: On renewal odds, hopes for Daniel Wu – AMC drama

Tonight, AMC is officially saying farewell to the first season of its martial-arts drama “Into the Badlands,” and the future may be at least a little more uncertain than it seemed at one point.

Earlier this season, it appeared as though the show had been renewed thanks to a post on star Daniel Wu’s Facebook page. However, that post has since been deleted, and Wu said during an AMA on Reddit this weekend that he “hopes” the show is brought back for a second season. In other words, nothing has been officially decided as of right now.

For the time being, we’d still say that we are optimistic that a second season will be coming. While the show has lost more than 67% of its premiere ratings in the 18-49 demographic, there are some major extenuating circumstances here since AMC was basically jamming it in between “The Walking Dead” and “Talking Dead” to boost ratings. We’re still not sure that it was worth the backlash, but we do feel at the moment that the show has moved past some of that now and the majority of people are once again talking about it for the right reason.

As for when AMC could officially make an announcement one way or another, we’d say to give it until after the holidays. There is no motivation for the show to rush things out unless they are already sure they want the show to come back; the last thing that they would want to do is deliver bad news right before the holidays and come across as some sort of massive jerk
