‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Chicago Fire’ alum set as Dorothy Gale

While in the past on “Once Upon a Time” you had a chance to meet a young Dorothy Gale, the character is going to be all grown up when you see her again. Not only that, but she’ll be ready to kick a little butt and take some times.

As reported Friday by TVLine, former “Chicago Fire” actress Teri Reeves has been cast in the role of older Dorothy, who is going to turn back up in Oz, which is where Zelena was sent off to by Regina at the end of the first half of season 5. Think of this as all of the evidence you need that the show still has big plans for Rebecca Mader.

The site describes this older Dorothy as being a “brave warrior for good,” so we’ll have to see just how that turns out when you consider that Zelena is about as wicked as they come; not only that, but she’s shown herself time and time again to be rather powerful. If something was to happen to one of the most-popular heroines in the history of literature, it would certainly be more than a little bit depressing, right?

It is smart for “Once Upon a Time” to bring Oz back into the fold for the first time really since the second half of season 3. Following the success of “The Wiz Live!” the story is popular again, so much so that NBC has long had a project in development about the world in “Emerald City.”

“Once Upon a Time” returns with new episodes on Sunday, March 6.
