ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 debate: How long should Castle, Beckett keep things under wraps?
It has been a little while now since there was a new episode of “Castle” on the air, so here’s a quick refresher as to where we are: Realizing that she cannot in good conscious keep her husband away from some of her LokSat investigation, Beckett has decided to loop Castle in to a certain extent. She’s back with him … but only in private. She’s still trying to keep him at arm’s length for now when it comes to the case, and they are still pretending to be broken up publicly.
So the question that we have now is rather simple: How long can these two keep this up? Does it really make sense to have them living this ruse? We do think it will make for some funny moments in the coming weeks, but there has to be an expiration date on this story.
The biggest reason why here is simply a matter of logic. These two love each other, and the longer that they keep this going, the harder it will be to keep their story straight. Sure, Beckett has experience doing undercover work; we’re more concerned about Rick, who tends to wear many of his emotions on his sleeve. People like Ryan and Esposito have been around them long enough that they are going to notice a change in their demeanor rather quickly.
Also, there’s the logic issue here of the LokSat investigation itself. Is it really going to make Rick into less of a target if he and Kate are not together? Any smart adversary is going to know of their romantic history, and that makes him ultimately a target regardless of if they are together now. The only way we don’t see this happening is if Rick does something publicly that is horrible to Beckett that the bad guys consider him a non-factor, and that is too out of character for this guy.
How long do you think Castle and Beckett will keep the breakup ruse going? Vote in our attached poll below!

I long for the Writer and His Muse….the writer who actually wrote books and was a smart contributer that helped solve crimes….what a concept.
This duo was smart, sassy and loving.I could not wait for the next episode.
Now we have 3 new people that have me mad when I see them,Vikram is the worst,Hayley is still a mystery to me,I still think the bad cop from England is just a cover, remember she was reporting to someone in the first episode, etc.
I just would like them to work as a team to solve muurders.Martha come back to us,Alexis you need a boyfriend and finish school, there is plenty of time to be Sherlock Holmes later.
Please end this whole mess so we can actually debate on whether there will be a season 9,Stop being stubborn and make it right.
I do not think the fake break up is a great idea,Martha will figure it out….at least the old Martha would. All we need is a few Page Six stories of fake fighting and discord and we could have Meridith coming around for another try….LA visit anyone.

needed to never start. just killing the show every minute they waste on it. also the “any partner other than Castle and Beckett for Beckett and Castle” stunt, just doesnt work.

Comments on other boards show many fans wanted to vote for “Never should have happened in the first place.”

WinHawley not smart enough to end the separation. If I were Loksat I would kill both-all of her family and Rysito. I am waiting for A writer and his Muse to return.

This story line is boring – the mortal sin of entertainment. It is transparent who the bad guy is. A character of Beckett’s ability should have gotten this in episode 3. This is all compounded because it does not allow Fillion and Katic be together enough to give the premier performances the show needs to pull it out of this tailspin.

As Hsien-Cheng Li said, there are now three characters doing what RC/KB used to do. Is ABC attempting to set the stage for a season 9 without Beckett. If Mr Smith’s prediction from the start of this season that if Beckett continues her search for Loksat she would be killed comes true, then this entire season is being written to that end.
Polls would have no effect if that is where this story is going.

I’m beginning to think this storyline was heaped upon the writers. Circumstances dictated they come up with something like this. If you read the blind item on tvline, that a lead actor for a long running series will be killed by season’s end and you add that to the prolonged contract negotiations with SK, for one season only, and if that was part of the contract.

It is possible that SK may want out, but the way those 2 new show runners handling this season is pretty messed up. We all can see SK has less time on screen and 2 more characters, which really are extra, start taking time on screen. But it is not the excuse to have a such rediculous story line

Without either Fillion or Katic and in particular Fillion working with Katic there is no show.

I have heard that the new public defender is a major part of LokSat. As such he is going to be an antagonist to Beckett and may flush out the Caskett ruse within a few episodes. Regardless of when the Caskett reunion is made public I believe that LokSat will either be solved about episode 14 when interest is diverted to Castle’s disappearance or will drag out without any interest until the end of season if that soon. After all nothing has been resolved on the show since 6×23. I am getting very bored in the waiting as Nathan Fillion said. Complete both LokSat and the disappearance this season or there will be no season 9 for me.

Sadly, I think it will last most of the season. It never should have happened in the first place and judging by the ratings, a good many fans feel the same way. Unfortunately, I believe the showrunners are too arrogant to admit they misread the fandom so completely and will stubbornly continue with their storyline to the detriment of the show. This seasons showrunners have taken away all of the elements that made the show great, starting with Castle and Beckett sharing screen time. “A writer and his muse” has become “a Private Investigator and his estranged wife”. Not exactly the same chemistry.

Exactly. The separation just can’t give the same feel as the courtship of earlier seasons did. It completely eliminates the chemistry of the two leads working side by side to solve cases. The whole PI thing and then the separation destroyed it. The problem is that the showrunners, like far too many in this business, think only tragedy and suffering are compelling. And then of course they insisted that Rick has to be stupid enough to not figure out that the reason she left had to do with the Locksat case.

I agree with a lot of the comments and hope H & W resolve these issues quickly. IMO there is no reason for this separation malarkey. I am committed to this show and love the characters. I am in for the long haul!

Phyllis, so am I in for The long haul.Unfortunately I believe that we will be disappointed by the end of the season, but here is hoping that we aren’t.

Matt, taking your poll of when or how long they should stay apart .it appears fans want them back together rather quickly. I hope that H&W see this and do what the fans want.

Keep dreaming. The separation is the story line of this Castle 2.0

Like you indicated , there is more behind this storyline and this arch is beginning to look like it’s geared for one conclusion.
