‘Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance’ finale: Vytas Baskauskas reportedly banned from reunion
The finale of “Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance” is going to be followed up on Wednesday by the semi-annual reunion show, but you’re apparently not going to see Vytas Baskaushas there unless something changes.
In a series of posts on Twitter below, Vytas (who was the first person voted out this season) claims that he has been banned from appearing at the show or even sitting in the audience. What’s the reason? That he left the pre-jury trip that early boots from the show go on in order to go home and spend time with his young son. Based on some tweets Vytas seemed to know that there would be potential consequences to his actions, but was hoping that production would reconsider and allow him to be there.
Can we understand Vytas’ frustration here? Certainly, since he is far from the first person to come home early rather than going on the pre-jury trip. Even within the past 10-15 seasons there are several different instances we can think of where it happened, and we’re not including Terry this season since it was a far different situation. The only person to ever be banned from a reunion show previously was Brandon Hantz, and we feel like that was out of fear that he would have some huge confrontation on the “Survivor Caramoan” finale. (We felt at the time that one of the reasons why the pre-jury boots weren’t on stage for that was to keep it from coming up in conversation.)
This may actually be a case where we understand in one way or another where everyone is coming from. CBS / production has rules that they want everyone to adhere to, and since people like Vytas are returning players, there’s a chance of them being recognized. However, at the same time do you really want to take the time on the reunion to explain the pre-jury trip and other things that aren’t brought up during the show traditionally? We almost feel like it’d be better to penalize contestants in another way like in their stipend versus keeping them from being a part of the reunion, since that also penalizes viewers.
We’ll have some more updates on the situation if it changes, but for now head over here to get our contestant rankings for the “Survivor” finale right now! Also, sign up over here to get some other TV news on everything we cover, sent right to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)
