‘Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris’ canceled by NBC

Best Time -It looks like NBC didn’t have the best time ever with Neil Patrick Harris’ new variety show.

After one season of the show and ratings that decreased after losing some heavy-hitting lead-ins, the network opted (per Variety) today to not renew “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris.” The show was a bit of a talk-show / variety-show hybrid, with everything from sketches to interviews to games crammed into an hour-long format. It was a chance to do something new based on “Saturday Night Takeaway” over on Britain’s ITV, but it never quite landed in America in the way which the network hoped for. Reviews were mixed, and as we mentioned the show couldn’t get much steam going without “The Voice” or “America’s Got Talent” helping it out.

In a statement to the aforementioned website, NBC’s late-night and alternative programming head Paul Telegdy vowed that the network will stay in business trying to develop something new for the entertainer:

“We are extremely proud of the work Neil and the producers did on ‘Best Time Ever.’ People rewarded us for taking the risk of trying something different. It was an incredibly complicated and sophisticated form of television to put on a live show on a weekly basis. We’re proud of Neil for giving it his all and we have steely resolve to work together on something new.”

Ultimately, Neil’s going to be just fine, so there really is not much of a reason to be even remotely concerned over his future on the air. The only thing that we wish is just that this show didn’t have a timeslot switch for at least one season so that it could get a consistent audience.
