‘The Leftovers’ season 2 hits live+3 high for finale, more justification for season 3 renewal

Earlier this week, HBO did what we consider to be both the right thing and a very awesome thing: They have officially picked up “The Leftovers” for a third season. Now, we’re getting even more of an understanding as to why they did this move.

Some of the live+3 data is coming in for this past week of programming, and the series starring Justin Theroux rose to 1.43 million (per Variety) in its second straight week for its finale on December 6. The show can have that to celebrate, along with the hope that there are many people who are going to take an interest in the show once more and watch it over the course of the months ahead … though granted, there is no real pressure on the show anymore following the news that season 3 will be the last.

As for when that season could premiere, it’s easy to guess at some point next fall, but it could be longer. There was a pretty significant wait between the first and second season, but that wait led to Damon Lindelof, Tom Perrotta, and the writing staff having the necessary time to shake up the story and deliver something incredible. If more time means higher quality, then take all of the time necessary!

It may be some time before we are here with some other news on the third season, but trust us when we say that we’ll give you everything that we know the moment that we first know it. Stay tuned…
