‘Shark Tank’ review: Beard Head, LovePop, GeekMyTree, PiperWai
Tonight is the winter finale for “Shark Tank,” and there’s a festive feeling in the air! One product is specifically Christmas-related, while at least two others do have something to do with the holidays. There’s also deodorant. Expect a lot of holiday cheer throughout, but also some tense negotiating!
Like with every other review of “Shark Tank” we do, be sure to check in throughout the night for more updates.
GeekMyTree – Kevin O’Leary is right about one thing: This product costs a boatload of money. We do think that there are some nice features about this, and there are so many light patterns that make this stand out beyond the average Christmas tree. The problem with this is actually very simple: The price. Nobody will spend this kind of money on this other than the super-rich. We think that he’ll sell some units after this, but probably a much smaller percentage than if it ran $100 or so. Kevin O’Leary ended up getting the company on board, but how successful will it be?
Beard Head – A new way to dress up your head … and your face. We actually do really like the product, but the Sharks seemed especially hung up on the fact that despite the kitschy look and feel, it just wouldn’t catch on and it was somewhat of a fad business. Had he arrived at the Tank maybe three years ago, he may be looking at a little bit of a different result now. It’s odd, since there’s really not anything that was necessarily wrong with the presentation. No deal.
LovePop – Are these the perfect greeting cards? We do really like the designs and the simplicity of them. While we do think that getting in the kiosk business is a little too much, too soon when they could just focus on being online and getting space in greeting-card shops, it’s such an easy way to capitalize on the show’s success since this is something people will buy. The truth is, Kevin is the wedding guru. He has Honeyfund, Wicked Good Cupcakes, and Bottle Breacher in his portfolio. This is a perfect addition.
PiperWai – Does this natural deodorant do something special? We are wondering if the deodorant is a little too expensive and a little hard to find online, but the good news is that they were passionate. We’re not sure if they would have been able to sell this if they didn’t truly stand up for themselves and fight, and this determination eventually led to them getting Barbara Corcoran on board.
