‘Survivor’ winner John Cochran working with Greg Garcia again, creating potential CBS comedy
Remember how much mileage CBS got out of “Survivor” winner John Cochran writing for “The Millers”? Well, just imagine what could happen if he ends up creating his own show.
As first reported by Deadline, Cochran is joining forces with “The Millers” executive producer Greg Garcia, who was responsible for offering him a job on that show, for a comedy entitled “Bob’s Your Uncle” for the network. The basic premise is a hot-shot lawyer who takes their nephew, who is socially awkward and struggles in many situations where communication is needed, as a sort of protegee. Cochran is writing what could end up becoming the pilot, and could co-executive produce along with Amigos de Garcia’s Alix Jaffe.
CBS has been high on Garcia for some time; while “The Millers” was canceled during production on its second season, they have given him two kicks at the can at a wonderfully ambitious show in “Super Clyde” that only failed because it was probably a little too far off-kilter from what they traditionally put on the air. (It has been years since they have renewed a camera that is not multi-camera in some shape or form.) Some of Garcia’s other notable credits include “My Name Is Earl” and “Raising Hope.”
As for Cochran, we’ve been wondering for a while what he was up to following his time with “The Millers.” He’s said that he is not particularly interested in returning to “Survivor,” and given that he now works for the network in some capacity we’re not even sure he would be allowed to return. “Bob’s Your Uncle” will still have to go through many stages before it becomes a series, including making a pilot and then getting approval on that from the network.
