‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Is a big Meredith story coming up?

Meredith Grey has certainly been through quite a bit through the past two seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and the important thing worth noting right now is that this story for her is far from over. There are still many other developments coming, and while some could make life easier for her, there are also challenges. In her world, there almost always is.

Showrunner Shonda Rhimes of course is continuing to hold true to her policy of not giving hardly anything away when it comes to the story of this season, but she did tease to Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming midseason premiere in February could contain a few important moments for Ellen Pompeo’s character:

“It’s been really fun getting to explore Meredith and where she’s going and who she’s becoming … That evolution continues. We’ve been having a blast. The first episode that comes back is extraordinary and very, very powerful, and directed by Denzel Washington. It certainly puts us on a path for the beginning of the second half of the season.”

What we know about Meredith’s story at the moment is that she is in a place where the relationship between her and Amelia is completely on the rocks, and they have clashed over how to treat Penny, otherwise known as the woman responsible for costing Derek his life. Her arrival to Seattle has brought Meredith back to a dark place, and she has also lashed out at times on people such as Jo, which in turn put her relationship with Alex in jeopardy. The winter finale ended with him proposing to her, and we’re waiting to see what comes next there.
