‘Supernatural’ season 11 fall finale reaction: Amara’s carnage; Lucifer’s return
“Supernatural” midseason finales love to end with some sort of cliffhanger, and more of then than not there is a common thread among many of them: At least one of the brothers, if not both of them, feeling completely and totally screwed over.
Let’s begin our discussion of “how the boys got wrecked” tonight with Lucifer, who as it turns out, was the one sending Sam messages all along! Realizing that God was never speaking to him at all had to be a rough lesson for Sam to handle, and it was made even worse when he realized just what sort of fate awaited him: Being stuck in a cage. He and Lucifer are going to have a lot of time to spend together over the hiatus. That has to be horrible, but on a different note who’s excited to have Mark Pellegrino back on the show in some capacity?
As for Dean, he has to deal with a full-grown Amara now being incredibly dangerous … not to mention attention-seeking. Over the course of this episode she killed angels and then killed innocents, all for the purpose of making sure that she got the attention of God. Who, she also kissed Dean and insisted that there is a connection between them that would be impossible to break. Poor Dean can’t even get into a willing romance on the show these days…
We haven’t even really mentioned Rowena or Crowley in this article, but we almost don’t need to in order to stress the shock value of this episode. Maybe this wasn’t the best winter finale over the course of this season, but it did set up two great stories that will pay off in January.
