Jon Stewart returning to ‘The Daily Show’ as surprise interview guest
When you watch Monday night’s new episode of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” there is one thing that may surprise you right away: Who is going to be stopping by for a surprise interview.
As the title (and tweet below) give away, Stewart will be appearing on his former Comedy Central stomping grounds for the first time since his departure from this show this summer. That was an emotional affair, and something that led to many people wondering if late-night TV will ever be the same. Noah has done a solid job in his wake, but it is nice to get a little bit of Stewart here and there.
With this being said, we’re not entirely sure that you should expect this to be a regular or even semi-regular occurrence. Stewart is set to join HBO next year to produce a variety of short-form clips and entertainment for them, and that will be his way to experiment with a new medium. He had always insisted from the moment he departed “The Daily Show” that it was never his intention to retire. He was simply ready to do something else with his career after spending so long being immersed in a single world.
For tonight, we’re sure that Comedy Central is happy to have him from a ratings standpoint. The primary reason that he is there is to discuss a 9/11 bill that is set to extend benefits to First Responders and people who need it in the years that have followed the terrorist attack. It is one of those bills that may be able to transcend traditional politics and actually get support from both parties.
