When will ‘Doctor Who’ season 10 start filming, and then premiere?

Doctor Who -Are there going to be some massive changes to the production cycle on “Doctor Who” moving into the next year? The more and more that we are hearing on this subject, the more that we are believing that this could end up being the case.

Last month, production designer Michael Pickwoad made it clear on Radio Free Skaro that he is anticipating starting up work on episodes in February or March. This corresponds well with the notion that unless Steven Moffat is pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes, there is no confirmed casting yet for a Companion. We may not know for sure what the series has planned there until Christmas or even the new year, unless the show does some massive twist and gives the gig to Alex Kingston (which seems unlikely, but you never know).

With this in mind, the next month or two could be spent with the show working to find itself a new Companion, and then Moffat also has “Sherlock” season 4 to worry about next year. It would make some sense for “Doctor Who” to start filming presumably in April or May, and then have a later premiere.

Moffat has already insisted that in terms of episode count, nothing with the show next season is going to change. Our feeling is that we could be getting a situation similar to season 7, where you had half of the stories air in the fall and the other half in the new year. This is something that many shows in America do regularly, and it would give everyone a little breathing room after an intense couple of years.
