‘Shark Tank’ video: Sarah Oliver Handbags presents its unique story

Sarah -In the world of business today, it is hard to get by just with a good product alone. There is so much competition out there that sometimes, you need an interesting story to go along with it. This is a way to get people talking about your brand, and to feel like you are supporting something greater than a mere product.

For Sarah Oliver Handbags on Friday night’s “Shark Tank,” you have a product that is unique in how the bags are created. They are hand-knit by a group of seniors referred to as the Purlettes +1 (with the +1 being the only man in the group). The video below is Oliver sharing with the Sharks the stories of some of the people responsible for the product, who all seem happy and grateful for the opportunity to be involved in a company at this stage in their lives.

The premise behind the brand here is very sweet, and knit products are wonderfully old-fashioned in a way that makes them classic and timeless. with all of this said, is it something that you can really invest in as a Shark? That’s the question going into Friday’s episode. We don’t question the quality of the bags; instead, we wonder about how to scale the business, something that is talked about so much on this show. In order to keep up with demand if the idea is to draw more revenue, you’re going to have to find more knitters; if you are looking for more seniors, this is not so easy as just putting an ad online. From there, you then have to find more while still keeping that personal touch and not making it seem corporate. That is not easy to do.

The fun thing about doing these preview articles is that we are looking at a brand almost in a vacuum, knowing mostly what we’ve seen on company websites and in show sneak peeks. It’s always possible that with the right answers, the Sharks could be all aboard this product. If not, they could cast it back out to sea.
