‘Empire’ season 2 fall finale reaction: Show boss on Mimi Whiteman surprise, big death

Empire -

We would say that the season 2 fall finale on “Empire” delivered, and ultimately on more than one front. When it comes to business, we had a chance to see something shocking courtesy of Mimi Whiteman, who effectively used Lucious Lyon to the point where she was able to snag control of his company, and then thanks to a sudden betrayal by Hakeem, put Camilla in charge of running it while she goes off and receives treatment. Naomi Campbell’s character no has her revenge!

So how is this going to shape up moving forward? Showrunner Ilene Chaiken described the events of the fall finale to TVLine, and explained the dynamic between Mimi and Camilla with the following message:

“What we’re saying essentially is that the baton has been passed to Camilla; Mimi has been a shill for her. And as Mimi goes off to get treatment, Camilla steps into that role in a much more vengeance-minded way, as you can imagine.”

Now, let’s talk the other shocker here in the end (?) of Rhonda. Is this character truly dead? This is not something that Chaiken would confirm, but she did say the following in an effort to give fans something to think about over the next several months:

“It’s so desperately sad that she did have to go down those stairs. And how she wound up at the top of that staircase — and then at the bottom of that staircase — is another thing I want you to come back wondering about.”
