Barbara Walters names Amy Schumer, Tracy Morgan, Bernie Sanders to ‘Most Fascinating’ list

It could happen -

Even though Barbara Walters may be retired from “The View,” she is still coming back to do something that has long been a December tradition: Her 90-minute special on the Most Fascinating People of the Year.

Today, some of the first names have been announced, and for the most part, we’re not surprised by them: Comedians Amy Schumer and Tracy Morgan, Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, actor Bradley Cooper, ballerina Misty Copeland, and fashion designer Donna Karan. We’re a little surprised we suppose by Karan, but that’s only because we’re out of the loop in the fashion industry and don’t know much about her 2015 contributions.

In case you’ve counted, those are only seven people out of ten honorees. These will be announced at a later date, and we imagine that there are some viable candidates out there from Caitlyn Jenner to Donald Trump to J.J. Abrams to Adele to Taylor Swift to Hillary Clinton to David Letterman who have all had an impact on the year in some form. We know that many of these are celebrities, but you have to remember that this is a television program and not Time Magazine’s list of Most Influential people. Often Walters will sneak in one or two names that are not viewer bait, but this has to be thought of as an entertainment show first and foremost.

The show will air on December 17 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern, a time that really makes little since. Why not just make it two hours, or condense it to an hour? The show’s never a ratings barnstormer, but at least give it the best chance!
