‘The Good Wife’ season 7, episode 9 review: Did Eli scare Jason away?
If there is one thing that many main characters on “The Good Wife” know rather well at this point, it is how to ensure that dirt is effectively dug up on other people. This is something that really was stretched out through the entire hour, as Eli and Ruth made it their priority to ensure that Alicia Florrick stayed away from Jason Crouse.
It was a long and at-times complicated project for the two of them, but ultimately the two were able to at least find out one bit of important information that could be a game-changer: The file that Jason has on her. He claims that it was necessarily in order for him to take employment there, but Eli’s not buying it. In an effort to keep her away, he went and ratted out Jason to Alicia at episode’s end, and we were left with her reasonably-stunned face.
Do we think that this story is over? Far from it. Alicia is not someone to be steered away by scandal, and she will get the answers herself rather than letting someone else do it for her. Compelling stuff, and we’re loving Jeffrey Dean Morgan in this role.
As for the rest of the story, Alicia being forced to pay out for contempt is pretty terrible, right? The case of the week is entertaining, mostly because it put the Alicia – Louis Canning dynamic in a place that is different than we’re used to. Still, we’re not going to say that it was altogether memorable in comparison to the Alicia / Jason stuff, which is the show finally connecting some of their dots this season. If there is one major criticism of the season so far, it is some of the disconnect between stories. Episode Grade: B+.
