National Dog Show 2015: Did a chihuahua, a skye terrier, or a French bulldog win Best in Show?
While we’re not sure that there is any other day of the year in which we would get this excited to watch a dog show, the National Dog Show on NBC has become an annual tradition. To us, it’s that perfect program to watch while you are cooking the turkey and getting some side dishes together. Also, it’s perfect if you have dog envy for whatever reason.
This year, we yet again had a nice lineup of dogs all across the groups, and before we get to Best in Show this year, let’s list off some of the group winners.
Hound Group – Scottish deerhound.
Herding Group – Bearded collie.
Working Group – Newfoundland.
Terrier Group – Skye terrier.
Toy Group – Smooth-coated chihuahua
Sporting Group – Cocker spaniel.
Non-sporting Group – French bulldog.
Now, we turn to Best in Show. Was there a favorite going into this? We tend to think that terriers and spaniels have the leg up in some of these shows, but we think that this show/ the Philadelphia Kennel Club do have a great tendency to recognize a wide array of breeds. We joke sometimes that the majority of the winners from these shows are poodles, but we’ve seen over the years here that this is not the case.
In the end, it was the skye terrier who came out on top! We’re not sure we’d consider this an upset, but we were thinking going into the big reveal at the end of the show that the chihuahua actually had a shot at it, based on the reaction from the crowd. You can see the winner of the show below, courtesy of a tweet from Chris Heidner of BuzzFeed.
Oh, and we should mention that one of our favorite things from the show this year is the fact that one of the trainers was named Michael Scott.
