‘Downton Abbey’ series finale: Julian Fellowes spills the latest on movie hopes
At the end of the day, we have no real idea as to whether or not there will be a “Downton Abbey” movie. We know that there is interest and demand there from some, but without seeing the Christmas Special coming up that serves as the series finale, we cannot say one way or another if it is necessary. All we can do is pass along what show creator Julian Fellowes is saying on the subject at the moment.
In a new interview with Vulture at the International Emmy Awards earlier this week, the prolific writer made it clear that could potentially hold him back is the event that he fails to find a story that he is ultimately happy with:
“So much of this depends on the script. For me, it’s the real key here … This holds a great deal of interest for me, because I still have more to say with Downton. I see this transitioning to film quite well, and I certainly am the person to tell this story.”
One other potential hurdle here will be making sure you get the right people interested and involved with the project. The show’s cast certainly appears to be close-knit and would want to work together again, but patience could be the key here. This may be something that comes together years in the future, but it takes a while for it to materialize because everyone is off doing their own thing. After spending half a year annually for much of the past half-decade on this show, it makes sense that people would want to mix things up.
