‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 8, episode 2 review: Kim Fields inspires us all
Why does Kenya Moore like to cause so much drama over little issues that are none of her business? This season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” has started off with a big Prada bag full of drama courtesy of our favorite pot stirrer Kenya.
Kenya met her new neighbor, Sheree, for the first time at Cynthia’s eye wear launch party and dug into her right away about not having enough money to finish the renovations on her house that is next door to Kenya’s saying that it’s driving down the value of all the houses in the neighborhood. Not the best first impression if you ask us… she still has to live next door to Sheree and now she hates Kenya. After calling Sheree names (and then apologizing) Kenya decides to leave the party early.
Cynthia is also dealing with Peter’s outburst at Kenya at the party over the video, saying that yes there are problems in their marriage, but they are a lot bigger then this video. After huffing out of the party, Peter headed back to Charlotte without talking to Cynthia about their issues. Unfortunately Cynthia’s issues don’t end there – Although last season Phaedra and Cynthia had beef, this season they are on better terms. Phaedra had to be the barer of bad news when she revealed to Cynthia that her sister was telling all to anyone that would listen at her party about her “I’m not attracted to Peter with his clothes off” comment.
We had out introduction to Kim Fields in this episode and while she has been very focused on being a mom and a wife over the years, she has also been behind the scenes working on a ton of projects. She is very different from the other housewives in that she’s not looking to be on the social scene like the other ladies. She is a breath of fresh air – a very inspiring woman.
Porsha is having a big going away party for Duke and it’s her opportunity to introduce him to her family. Her sister reveals that she’s pregnant and while this is big news, it’s not taking away from Duke’s big party. Porsha is on the fast track to settling down with Duke and is pushing for them to buy a house together even though they have only been dating a few months. Is Duke feeling the same way? We saw his friend saying that Porsha is a bit much and telling Duke that he should stay at the party even though he seems overwhelmed. As the party went on it became uncomfortable for us to watch. We can see how excited she is thinking that he’s the one, but he seems so uncomfortable that we started to feel that way too.
The premiere episode definitely felt like it was missing some NeNe Leakes action when it came to legitimate drama, but Kim Fields brings something very different and changes the feel of the show to bring a more positive energy. We thought we were going to have issue with NeNe being gone, but this episode changed things for us with the introduction of Kim. We are not saying she is the star of the show, but her positive energy changes the dynamic in a way that we didn’t think could happen. Episode grade: B+
