‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ review: Bindi Irwin, Carlos PenaVega, top 4 fight to make final three
Tonight was the final Monday show for “Dancing with the Stars” this season, and it promised many a great thing. Not only were the ever-popular freestyle routines set to return, but we also had a great opportunity to see how the Stars reacted to getting a chance to work with the judges rather than just be scored by them.
As always when we do these sorts of reviews, we’re going to have some other updates throughout the night. Stay tuned!
Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson, foxtrot – Bruno came to help Carlos in his quest to get a perfect score, and thanks to the technique and the quality of the dance, he nailed it! This is the sort of performance that is great to kick things off with, mostly because we found it fun from start to finish. Score: 30.
Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold, rumba – Very good, but it wasn’t at the level of Alek. We give him credit for the transformation and the journey he has been on, but for now, we still cannot say confidently that we see him winning the season. He has too much of an uphill climb. Score: 27.
Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough, quickstep – Pretty close to flawless, but given where we are in the competition right now, the judges want to just give you great scores to everyone to leave it up to America. No shocker here. Score: 30.
Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess, jive – See what we just said? Well, apply it here once again. This is the time where the judges don’t want to make the decisions … but we will say that this was excellent and given that the dance is so far, it is easy for things to go off. They didn’t. Score: 30.
Freestyles – Given that the judges went ahead and gave everyone perfect scores without regard for any actual technique, there’s no point in going through them individually. Carlos’ was fun but forgettable, Alek’s was physical, and it was clear to us that Bindi’s was the emotional one that would probably win her the competition. Nick was really fun throughout his Backstreet Boys routine, and that may mobilize his fans.
